Usually I would be watching shows or playing Diablo 3 but since the servers are on maintenance right now I figured I'd come down here and make a post.
Which I'm lying of course because this is so much more of a rant.
Now for those who are not familiar with the game, you probably aren't gonna be interested in this at all so you might as well close this tab right now.
Wait, what's this? You're still here?
Wow, looks like I'm wrong about some of you.
Okay then, let me just give a brief explanation here.
Basically there are 5 classes of characters to choose from, 3 ranged, and 2 melee.
Ranged classes are the Demon Hunters, Wizards and Witch Doctors while Melee classes are the Barbarians and Monks.
Now my first character was a barbarian. When someone mentions the word barbarian one would likely to thinking tall strong alpha male type of character, perhaps even to the extent of being savage and ruthless.
And it was, or least the notion held true for the first few difficulty levels. I breezed through normal, slightly too easy, imo. Felt more like a tutorial. No matter, because Nightmare difficulty was a lot more fun - I enjoyed it thoroughly. Yes it was still easy, but at least you had to use some thinking.
Now Hell, Hell was a challenge. Mobs were harder, elite mobs were no longer trashy and dying no longer represented an accident but rather a lack of experience. One has to learn to deal with the type of elite mobs.
What happens is elite mobs usually come in a pack, and they have affixes that make them 'elite'. Say the affixes for this particular pack is molten/plague/jail/shielding.
Basically what it meant is
Molten - Monsters leave a trail of fire behind wherever they move that deal a lot of damage
Plague - Monsters can plague a particular area of the floor to deal damage over time
Jail - Monsters can impede a player's movement (and only movement) by trapping them in a cage.
Shielding - Monsters can summon a shield to lower damage dealt to them.
So what you have is a group of monsters circling around you, burning you with the fire, infecting you with the pestilence while you stand there incapitated since attacking them is somewhat useless due to their shields.
On Hell, with luck and skill you might be able to survive. Deaths are bound to happen but hey at least the monsters can be killed after a few tries.
And then we come to Inferno. This difficulty level, instead of making the mobs more strategic so that you have to outsmart them, plainly just buffs the monsters up to an insane level.
They hit for ridiculous damage, heal very fast and incredibly hard to kill.
Fighting them is like having god bitch-slapping you in the face as if to say 'not this time sucker!'. You then cower in pain as you watch your character die within 3 seconds.
Therefore most of the time you see melee classes go in, take damage for 3-4 seconds, run away while the ranged classes simply stand and shoot.
I rolled a Barbarian god damnit, not a pussy-ass weakling. Barbarians were bred for fight, not flight.
Sigh.
Seriously and some affix combinations are even worse.
If you happen to play a ranged character, at least you can put up some kind of fight as you shoot from far and all you have to do is kite them around.
However, as a barbarian I have to get up close and personal in order to deal any form of damage. So it sucks for me.
It comes to a point where it is no longer a matter of skill nor experience, but rather a case of whether your gear is up to standard.
Gear can be farmed, yes, but how are we supposed to farm for gear when we cannot even survive. Sure, you can go back to Hell and farm for gear. Then maybe after a few days you finally get a better pair of gloves. And then its time to farm for the rest of your armor.
Now look here damnit, I bought a Game, not a mother fucking Job.
I can't just sit there and do the same shit all day.
I mean yes I've tried farming, but to epic fail proportions. And after you died 20 times trying to kill the boss, you would think at least he'd drop better loot than some level 51 shit that is fucking useless and cannot even be sold on the auction house cause nobody will fucking want it.
'Ah, there's your solution', you'd say. 'The Auction house!'
Oh right! Why didn't I think of that? Gosh I must be an idiot. An entire community of gamers helping one another to get better loot. Of course!
You then make a trip there and browse for a basic weapon, say a 600+ dps 1 hand weapon. We don't need too much, there's 800+ dps but we can settle for lesser, no matter.
So you one look at the price and wow, 10 million.
I mean, are you fucking kidding me.
Okay 10 million is farm-able, I get it, but it takes a lot of time. I'm barely into my first million.
And there are stuff selling for 200 million.
200 million! Who the fuck needs that much gold!?
So you sit down and think, okay. If people can sell, so can I. I just need to find some good loot and sell it for some gold. I won't overprice it, maybe a few hundred thousand, well into the affordable region. Then maybe I can afford better stuff.
Oh wait, you can't. Because the loot drops are so shit that unless you sit there farming 10 hours a day grinding the same few places, you're not going to get any good stuff to sell.
So there you have it, that's my rant. Or at least what I can remember now at 3am because I'm fucking sleepy and just want to get this over and done the fuck with.
I mean, everyone has been complaining about it, so why Blizzard isn't doing anything to fix it is beyond me.
All they can do is change some scripts, make the percentage loot drops cheaper, perhaps put a cap on the auction prices or......
Wait.
I get it now.
Of course, Why didn't I see it earlier.
All these low drop rates, coupled with insane mobs and ridiculous auction house gold prices.
It all makes sense now.
Blizzards doing all these for their Real Money Auction House.
The one where you can use money to pay for items.
And with such shit conditions, people would definitely resort to using their cold hard cash to buy gear.
They know that they have devoted fans who would still play the game no matter what happens - They waited 12 years for this game, after all.
Because earning US $60 per game just isn't enough, no. 11 million players on World Of Warcraft isn't enough either.
Oh no, real money is where Blizzard will finally make some money.
Those thieving bastards.
I WILL NEVER FEED YOUR GREED YOU FUCKERS!
Then again, my barbarian is so pathetic. And since I already spent 80 on the game, surely I can afford to spend a few more bucks.....
Ahh fuck this shit.
Fuck the game.
