So over two days I kinda watched a few movies. Yeah I know movie junkie yeah whatever. Anyways, here the list so far;
Star Trek (2009)
The Crazies
The Expendables
Thirst
Thirst
Step Up 3D
Yeah thats about it. I know its not a lot but hey, they're all pretty new movies. I wanted to watch Legend of Ip man but the pirated disc my uncle bought had shit quality. I was rather lazy to torrent it anyway so yeah heck.
Thirst especially, had a great story that was well, sadly adapted from an old novel called Therese Raquin. (Thanks wiki) Yeah I said sadly coz I thought the story was pretty good for a korean flick until I read wikipedia but hey its still an awesome film. Would recommend checking it out although...there are some NSFW scenes. So yeah you might wanna watch it alone. For it'll be pretty weird.
Basically its about this guy who becomes a vampire.... wait, what? You don't wanna watch it already? Why?
Oh I get it.
Nah this guy doesn't sparkle. Not at all. Maybe it's coz he's an asian. Idk. Anyways although the film, like Twilight, focuses on romance between a vampire and a human, has a different direction and the elements of the story are better expressed and the plot itself is more realistic I believe. I'm not saying that Twilight isn't realistic, but the love between them is so unconditional it really requires you to really believe in true love to be able to swallow the story down with a pinch of salt. But hey, who are we kidding talking about realism in a couple of vampire films.
Nevertheless, Twilight had a good story, the films however didn't do the books justice and it seems like the CGI is still mediocre for a movie that earned super big bucks. Mind you, I read all of the books (yes I did) so I'd like to think I know exactly what I'm talking about.
Another similarity between the films is the differing views between the male and female main characters on being vampires. The guy, being a priest, sees it as eternal damnation (duh) while the female kinda perceives it to be her ultimate liberation. That said, the way the story ends is completely different.
So yeah I shan't reveal too much and uhh, do check it out if you have the time.
Like I told a friend yesterday, Star Trek isn't half bad too. I may be biased though, given the director being J.J Abrams, the genius behind well, pseudo science flicks like Lost, Fringe, Cloverfield, and upcoming Super 8 which I am totally stoked for.
I am actually lazy to review Star Trek so I shall just say that even non Trekkies like most of Singaporean teenagers now can watch it without feeling lost. Yeap.
On another note, I have been really listening to Late Night Alumni lately. I was kinda looking for lounge music on youtube but found them instead and although they're not exactly lounge music, the tunes are relatively relaxing compared to my other songs and I immediately downloaded like idk 10+ songs or something to try them out.
Another artist I'd like to mention is Inch Chua. Granted she is Singaporean but her music is definitely not limited to local flavour. She, is just, amazing. And trust me besides her soprano vocals, the tunes each and every song packs is really refreshing and the melody from the guitars meld wonderfully with her voice and the rest of the sounds which range from, for e.g, say a violin from Wallflower to the drums in Rule The World.
Generally her album Wallflower expresses the emotions and nuances rather well and will definitely give you hope about the Singapore music industry. Other than her album she does have two other EPs and all of them including the album can be downloaded from her website, for free. That's right. Another reason to become her fan.
I must say, I really didn't expect myself to like a Singaporean artiste so much. Oh well, there's always a first.
So, a week of break ahead and I would really like to pull my grades up. Looks like I got a lot of work to do.
Oh and I really really want to catch 'Haunted Changi'. I know it looks totally cliched and the whole videocam style has been kinda overused but hey, it's still very much interesting to me. I mean c'mon we should be supporting our local films more. Especially a horror film. 'The maid' was just kinda fail. As for 'Haunted changi', I have a feeling that despite it being a local archetype of foreign horror films, it's gonna impress me. Anyone up for it?
Till next time,
Cya later.
You have me like a drawing,
erased, coloured in, untitled, signed by your tongue.
