Denial

Denial is a formidable power. So potent, it should be used sparingly, and only at its most needed times.

For the draw on it too deeply, is its own kind of death

And what a fool I was, to abuse it like a drug.

Now it destroys me.

It was never within my control. Like a virus, it slowly consumed me.

First, it hatches its eggs, implanting the thought into your mind; telling you that there was still time, time to catch up with revision, time to watch movies.

Eventually, you learn to see through its tricks. Although you were almost convinced that there will always be enough time, you sober up and realize that sometimes you got to discipline yourself to do the things you need to do.

But it was not done just yet. A powerful force such as Denial never has only one move. The more you fight it the more it counter attacks.

And this time, it plays with your moral codes, your personality, your characteristics.

You know you are behind in your studies, you know you have to study tonight. I've wasted too much time already, you tell yourself. Your friends ask you to join them for a cheer session. You tell them that you cannot do it, for it will take up too much time.

Under normal circumstances, Discipline will stand strong against Denial.

But not Today. Today, Denial has a special weapon.

Your friends persuade, they plead.

Your mind says no, but your heart tells you to lend a hand whenever your friends need help.

Denial's a smart fella, it tugs at your heart strings. And it's sly too, for it sneaks past your defenses and reaches into your dearly guarded armory.

It finds what it's looking for and emerges with 2 swords. Swords labelled Compassion and Friendship.

Discipline looks on with a heavy heart, he was tired, for he's been fighting this war a long time. With a final charge, it calls upon the great ancient force of Willpower to empower himself.

It would've been a mighty attack too, if not for Denial summoning its ultimate weapon.

You see, Denial was a coward, it seldom shows itself fully, preferring to creep in the shadows, laying behind its traps and lies. It has never been a strong brawler, and that is why its strongest skill is not an attack, but rather a defensive spell.

As Discipline charges forward, he notices a dome materializing out of thin air, surrounding Denial and protecting him, He tries to avoid it but alas, it was too late as he crashes into the shield of Delusion. His spear of Willpower breaking in the process.

Sigh, perhaps I'll join you guys for awhile...

Discipline never stood a chance.

After all, Friendship and Compassion were your most cherished weapons.

A victorious Denial stood over its rival's corpse. With time and focus, Discipline will stand tall again, ready to fight. But that day is far away. As the golden ichor flows out of its lifeless body, your resolve too, starts to falter.

I guess I'll study tomorrow. I can probably catch up if I try hard enough.

Denial smirked. Like candy from a baby, it thought.

Who could blame it though, Denial was simply doing what it was created to do. Nobody told you to abuse that power.

'It is the mark of an educated mind, to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.'

How foolish can you be, to think you could ever control it?
