Food for thought.

I just saw one of my junior's post on facebook about her craving for the school prata which made me remember something.

Picture this, you're having break now, and you decide to go for lunch. Now, looking at the selection of food stores in your canteen, you feel kinda spoilt for choices.

Usually it's between the Chinese rice or Yong Tau Foo for me. But sometimes....uhm, I don't know if this has happened to you before, but there's always this particular food that I've always been longing to try. It could be anything, from that crispy fried noodle, to the malay rice that is expensive but looks oh so appetizing. Or even some weird ass concoction of western food that your brain somehow managed to convince you that it's delicious.

And it doesn't have to be the same food everytime! It may even depend on your mood. For e.g. After a good workout in morning PE, I feel like my stomach might not be able to take so much fried and gravy food. So instead of that fried chicken sitting seductively under the amber spotlight in Chinese Rice store, I opt to go for yong tau foo. Of course, not the laksa gravy one, the normal noodles with clear soup that goes well with an unstable stomach. (I think) Also, under such circumstances, I prefer Kway Teow to yellow noodles due to the white, almost-translucent color of the Kway Teow gives me the same clean feeling compared to yellow-yellow-dirty-fellow noodles.

Yes, I'm quite particular when it comes to such stuff.

Anyways, I seem to have drifted off topic with my Yong Tau Foo story so now, back to topic.

So yeah, the food that we always wanted to try. When presented with this dilemma, what do we do?

It happened to me more than once, so I distinctively remember telling myself, "You know, it's only the XX month of school. You still have don't know how many more months to go, you can always try that another time. Besides, look at that queue!"

And then you look over at the queue, and it's like half the length of the queue at Chinese Rice store.

"Nah...it only looks short. Believe me, the food takes much longer to be served there."

"No shit. Really?"

"Really."

So there you have it. After being convinced by your brain that today's not the day to try your much desired food, you decide to go for plain ol' Chinese Rice.

And the next time this happens again, the exact same conversation takes place in your mind. Once again, you decide to play it safe and buy your trusted daily staple.

Then it occurs again, and again, and again..........alllll the way until the day you finally graduated, never to come back again except for results day.

And then you think to yourself, "Hmm, all this while and I've never tried the pan fried Dory fish with Mash Potato and wedges on a Prata topped with cheese and curry gravy. With a packet of popcorn chicken by your side and finally finishing it off with Fruit Salad and Milk."

'What happened to it?', you asked yourself.

You think back, eyes pointed diagonally upwards as you tried to recall.

Eventually, you shrugged your shoulders and muttered 'Fuck it.'

And you proceeded to join your friends for celebrations.
